Katrina Welty

A native of Wooster, Ohio, Katrina Welty is the youngest in a family that makes giving back a priority.
Welty attended Vanderbilt University, graduating with honors and a double major in Philosophy and Medicine, Health and Society. Junior year, she started working with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man and Woman of the Year campaign, which is a ten week friendly fundraising campaign that takes place every spring, honoring local survivor children – the Boy and Girl of the Year. Candidates raise money and compete for the title[s] of Man or Woman of the Year. Since 2006 Welty has worked on the campaign in various roles helping to raise over $1,200,000.
Additionally, Welty helps with the Nashville Jazz Workshop’s annual fall fundraiser, “The Workshop is one of Nashville more unique not-for-profit organizations. There are so many ways to get involved and enjoy one of Nashville’s flourishing arts, jazz music!”
Welty has co-authored a book titled “My Healthcare Is Killing Me,” available online as a free download. The co-authors believe that everyone should have access to healthcare information. “Its just another way of giving back.”
Most Rewarding moment so far:
The second year I worked with LLS we raised $447,000 in ten weeks. Moments like that are incredibly rewarding and motivating! Start small. If dedicating hours every week seems like too much, consider small ways of giving back. Try participating in a charity walk, attending an event that benefits a not-for-profit organization, or helping with a build for Habitat for Humanity. Every little bit helps and makes a difference.
