Lindsey Jones

Lindsey Jones first heard about the Songs of Love Foundation in high school when a classmate told her that she should consider writing a Song of Love for a sick child. Jones dismissed the idea, believing that she wasn’t capable of crafting a song that was good enough for anyone to listen to. But in 2002, when Jones moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University, she changed her mind.

Belmont offered an extra-curricular songwriter’s association for students interested in songwriting, and Jones joined. There she met other songwriters who really encouraged her to continue writing and performing. The songwriter’s association at Belmont had partnered up with the Songs of Love Foundation, a non-profit organization started by John Beltzer in New York City. Songs of Love believes in the medicine of music and offers itself (at no charge) to chronically and terminally ill children all over the world. Each child fills out a profile sheet with information specific to him/her, and the information is sent to a Songwriter of Love to write and record. The child then receives his/her very own song. Jones fell in love with the idea of making a child feel special with her music and decided to get involved.

As a Songwriter of Love, Jones has written and recorded over 200 songs for individual children.

Most Rewarding moment so far:

Without a doubt, the most rewarding moments come when I receive letters from families of children who’ve received one of my songs. Sometimes, when life is busy, I find myself just going through the motions to get a song written and recorded for a deadline. And it’s easy to forget that I’m dealing with a real child and a real story. So every letter I receive reminds me that these songs really do make a difference and really do touch lives. However cliché this may sound, it’s in these moments that I am truly convinced that the best way to receive is to give.
