We hope you are all enjoying summer as much as we are! We wanted to take a few minutes to let you all know what we’ve been up to this past month. In addition to some much needed downtime, we went out to Ellie’s Run for Africa on May 21st. We love to support Ellie’s Run, sometimes by volunteering at the event or including them in our events. This year, the three of us ran the 5K! Check us out, pre-sweat:

June 2nd, we co-hosted a private reception for our favorite causes in town with our friends at FundGiving. We saw lovely faces from Cup of Change, Faith Family Medical, Hands On Nashville, i2y Nashville, and so many more!
In addition, we have had some beautiful new photos taken by the immensely talented Alanna J. Taylor. You’ll be seeing them soon, as well as a new page coming to the site that introduces you to some of our partners and supporters.
We’re adding new features to the blog, too! Starting tomorrow, every Thursday we will feature a new cause in town and suggestions on how to get involved with their work.
Lastly, we are nailing down our calendar for the rest of the year. Soon we will be putting a team together for a special project. We also are partnering on a dance/art event that you won’t want to miss, and are planning a major event of our own for fall.
In short, we have a lot going on behind the scenes that we can’t wait to roll out! Make sure to sign up for our email list or watch our facebook or twitter for more news!
Much love,
Heather, Carrie, and Kimberly
The Giving Back girls were so thrilled to help out at Ellie’s Run for Africa yesterday. The morning was sunny and beautiful and the people were amazing! Thanks to all who came out to run, play, and support these children in Africa. Many children are able to receive an education because of this event. Yesterday, over $46,000 was raised. Congrats Ellie’s Run!

Here come the runners!

Where have you been in Africa, and where do you want to go?

Each runner ran for one child, and got to write a letter to that child.

Carrie and Heather: "Why should the kids get to have all the fun?!"

Looking for a chance to get out and enjoy the first days of summer weather? You can do that this Saturday and run Ellie’s Run for Africa, or just join in the carnival-like family festivities at Percy Warner Park.
What’s really cool about Ellie’s Run is that it was started by a young teen in Nashville six years ago. We’ve raised $210,000 so far, giving it to schools like these to help them give kids an education. Can you help us increase that?
We would love for you to join us at the race/fun day. You can register at www.elliesrun.org. Come out for a great time with family and friends and help us change the lives of these children who may never know a greater opportunity than to obtain an education!
If you’d like to volunteer on race day, please email us at givingbackisthenewblack@gmail.com. Volunteers are still needed!

We have several events coming up in the next few weeks. Here’s the first. The Africa at the Pinnacle event is a kick of for Ellie’s Run for Africa, and we’re looking forward to seeing the new Pinnacle building, seeing Emily West perform, and helping out Ellie’s wonderful cause in Africa. Don’t miss this one!
